About this event

Award-winning author and long-distance adventurer Ken Ilgunas will deliver the 2025 Waldorf Lecture on the Environment, sharing the story behind his book, "Trespassing across America: One Man’s Epic, Never-Done-Before (and Sort of Illegal) Hike along the Keystone XL Pipeline."

The lecture will be held Tuesday, April 15, at 12 p.m. in the Bost Theatre. The event is part of MSU’s environmental science program, which spans several colleges including the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences.

In 2012, Ilgunas set out on foot from Hardisty, Alberta, trekking nearly 2,000 miles to the Gulf Coast of Texas. Following the proposed route of the Keystone XL pipeline, he completed the world’s first modern journey across private property, traversing through one of the most overlooked landscapes on the continent: the Great Plains. His journey inspired his book which was featured in the New York Times and other national outlets.
